Terrell Owens’ Biography Speaks for the American Dream

The National Football League’s talented and flamboyant veteran wide receiver, Terrell Eldorado Owens, is now in his second season as a Dallas Cowboy.  Terrell Owens’ biography is an object lesson in achieving the American Dream. Born out of wedlock in 1973 in Alexander City, Alabama, he endured a fractured home life and economically disadvantaged childhood.   He displayed outstanding athletic ability from an early age, and immersed himself in sports with single minded fervor and perseverance. 

T.O. (as Owens is familiarly called) has spent 12 years in the National Football League, beginning in 1996 when he was picked up by the San Francisco 49ers as a third round draft choice.  In spite of frequent media attention spotlighting his sometimes excessive enthusiasm and outspoken remarks both on and off the field, T.O. excelled on the gridiron and earned impressive stats for the following eight years. 

Owens went on to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004, and the difficulty of moving to a team that had been long-time rivals of the Cowboys was exasperated by the media.  That, together with arguments with management over his contract terms, led to several suspensions during the 2005 season.  Then, in March of 2006 the Dallas Cowboys signed Terrell Owens to a three-year, $25 million contract.  He led the League in 2006 with 13 touchdowns in regular season play.

No biography of Terrell Owens would be complete without some continuing controversy off field, but T.O. is a driving force on field and renown for his dedication to total physical fitness as evidenced by his speed, strength, and agility.
